Section
In order to
complete the monumental task of constructing the 2,770km Overland
Telegraph line within the 18 month time limit, the project was
subdivided into 4 sections:
The North
Central Section was originally to be constructed by private
contractors Darwent and Dalwood but subsequent to them being sacked
by Todd, the 630km stretch
of water-logged, tropical country from Katherine
to Tennant Creek was
completed by a government construction party under the leadership
of the railways' engineer Robert Patterson. |
