event will celebrate a day in the life of selected communities
along the route of the Overland Telegraph using webcams, forums,
streaming audio and more.
Troubleshooting
Virtual Reality Scenes
If
the scenes are appearing sideways, it means that your computer
is trying to display them using Windows Media Player and not QuickTime.
Try installing (or reinstalling) QuickTime.
Not
Sure About the QuickTime Installation?
You must stay connected to the Internet throughout the install.
Go to
www.quicktime.com
Find where it says "Download the Free Player" and click on it!
You will need to fill in a little information about yourself:
your email address your first name your last name
Make sure
you select what type of computer you have Windows (PC) or Mac.
Language should be set to English (US). Then click on Download
QuickTime It should then say something like: The Quick Time
installer is currently loading and will automatically begin the
installation process after downloading this file. LOADING.....
Then you'll
likely get a 'Security Warning' window pop up which asks you if
you want to install and run 'QuickTime Installer' etc etc - click
'Yes' The installation process then starts, with a Welcome to
QuickTime 5 screen.
Follow the
prompts, clicking Next, Next, Agree, Next, Next, Next, Next, Next
(don't worry about the registration page at this stage) It will
then ask you to make sure you are connected to the Internet. If
your computer is part of a computer network, you might need to
enter proxy settings. If your computer stands alone and is connected
to the Internet using a modem, don't worry about that bit and
click 'Continue'!
It will then
search for installed components and begin downloading files to
your computer - this may take a few minutes (it's your coffee
break!). When this is complete, another 'Introduction' window
may pop up, welcoming you to the QuickTime Setup Assistant. Click
'Next', 'Next', 'Finish'. The final window, called 'Finished',
says the QuickTime Setup is complete. Uncheck the two checkboxes
and click on 'Close'. Now go back and try those VR
Scenes again!
NAVIGATION
There are
several ways to navigate through the content of this site. The
main method is by selecting a LOCATION using the menu at the top
of each page. These locations are in geographic order from Port
Augusta in the south to Darwin in the north.
MAPS found
on this site can also be used to navigate the same locations.
The HOME button
will always return to the main home page.
The VIRTUAL
TOUR button will take you to a menu page featuring the entire
selection of Quicktime Virtual Reality Scenes (360 degree panoramas)
and the entire collection of navigatable maps. No plug-in is required
to view this page, however, the Quicktime plug-in is required
to view the actual scenes. Some of these scenes will also contain
audio.
The second
method to navigate this site is by TOPIC, using the icons displayed
in the left hand column of each page. The topics featured will
evolve as each community develops and produces local content.
Topics will include:
- Aboriginal Connections
- Connecting the Kids
- VR Panoramas
- Webcams
- Colourful Characters
- On-line Event
