Interview transcript:This is our interview with Mr Best, our School Principal. This interview was conducted by Jaz, Andrew, Todd and Caitlin all in Year 5 from 5/6/7 Smith.

1. What educational changes have you seen in your time at Stuart Park Primary School?

I have seen many educational changes at Stuart Park School and in the Territory since I've been here. The big changes at Stuart Park School have been that we have more students now.

Since coming to Stuart Park I've noticed a change in how teachers teach. When I first came to this school we only had 4 computers and they were all in the library. We now have 8 -10 computers in each class and a lot more in the library. The way teachers use computers has also changed. In the early days one child might get to use a computer for half an hour a week, if they were lucky, now children are using computers every day and are doing many more things using technology. When I first came to Stuart Park we didn't have a network or the internet. Very few schools in the world had the internet back then, but during the last 7 years we have come a long way and are now connected to the internet. We have a satellite dish which means we can download very quickly and we can communicate with other schools from around the world. Other things I've noticed at Stuart Park School are that the kids haven't changed - they're still friendly and are still happy. They still work hard but I the way they learn in class is different. Students are now taking more responsibility for finishing work themselves rather than the teacher standing at the front saying now do this, now do that. Technology has helped change the style of teaching.

2.What things do you do to make the school run smoothly?

I don't think it's so much what I've done, I think it's what everyone has done, at Stuart Park we're a team. We're not one player, we're like one good team - like the Carlton Football Club. We all play together. The teachers are doing hard work, the teachers are friendly, the teachers are very positive in relation to what they want their students to achieve. The kids are also very positive.

3.How long have you been running this school?

I have been Principal of Stuart Park Primary School for 7 years. Stuart Park Primary School is a great place to work.
