Resources
Needed
There is a variety of
resources that can be used to support both the teacher and students
in the Connecting the Continent webquest:
CD-ROM and Books
- The Federation Roadshow,
A history. A mystery. A bird's eye view CD-ROM developed by
the Migration Museum in partnership with Open
Access College
- Specific reference
material in the school library - especially resources on telecommunication
history, Australian Federation, Newspapers such as the messenger
and Advertiser in South Australia
- "We of the Never
Never" - non-fiction book which will give students an
impression of the time
- "Federation:Then
and Now", MaryEllen Davidson, McGraw-Hill Book Company,
1999. This booklet has been written for Lower Secondary school
students. Key issues of Federation and its impact on Australia
today
- "Overland Telegraph,
The Story of the Great Australian Achievement and the Link
Between Adelaide and Port Darwin", Frank Clune, Angus
and Robertson, first published 1955

rituals, people and events that inspire a sense of civic identity
or even, pride?
What are our Australian icons?

beginning of last century

Human Resources and
Visits
I recommend a fieldtrip
to the migration museum, the state library and museum to find
first hand information. Additional human resources such as parents
may be needed with students while on excursions.
Using Human Resources
is always a good way to gather information. You may have a student's
grandparents who know additional information and could share
photographs, yarns and stories about seeing South Australia
Connect The Continent.
