The major
aim of the educational component of the Connecting the Continent
project is to maximise the uptake of 'best practices' with on-line
learning technologies across the system to celebrate 100 years
since Australia's Federation. For students engaged in the project

Enhanced understanding of Federation
2.
Purposeful engagement with on-line technologies to communicate
and collaborate with peers and experts
3.
Purposeful use of on-line technologies to develop information
literacy skills in a meaningful, relevant and exciting
context
4.
Development of problem solving skills in an on-line environment
For
teachers facilitating students learning at the school
site
1.
Support to amplify and extend their Information and Communication
Technologies skills in a purposeful context
2.
Enhanced understanding of how to design and manage on-line
projects in their classrooms
The event
will be live between June 18 - July 1 however schools are invited
to register on-line anytime
from April 30. The educational component Connecting the Kids
will feature many exciting interactive activities for students
and teachers developing and expanding students' experience of
on-line communication and creating an interactive learning environment.
Students, particularly those between Years 4 - 10 can begin
to investigate federation and telecommunication issues.
By registering,
your school is automatically in the running to win prizes in
several online competitions. Teachers can incorporate the project
into their teaching programs, utilising aspects that suit the
skills and abilities of their student and their particular learning
area.

on-line Activity Centre will contain information about,
- project,
teacher and student outcomes
- timelines
- intended
audience
- how
to prepare for the event
- information
on how to run a webquest and participate in on-line
discussions help on using email, the www, forum and
chat.
A
feature will be several downloadable lesson plans
on the OTL, telecommunications and the cultural heritage
of outback SA, all written for a multi-age audience and
capturing the requirements of the newly completed South
Australian Curriculum Standards and Accountability (SACSA).
There
will also be a Daily News page to provide
regular updates and news about the educational activities
and accompanying roadshow and a Discovery
page for students to solve puzzles on-line.

Do you think Australia's telephone systems would have been

Visitors
to this website can listen to live streaming audio from
School Of The Air and see and hear local students and
community identities through streaming video.
An
on-line Forum will take visitors to a site
consisting of discussion and chat rooms hosted by EdNA
On-line.
