I
have wondered on occasion, what Christmas or Easter
is like for kids in remote areas. Do you gather all
your family and have a big meal, or do you throw a
barbie for your neighbouring stations and have good
a time. Do your parents hide the Easter eggs and get
you to look for them, or is there the chance that
some wild animals might eat them before you get to
them (the neighbours dog got to ours, one year). Can
you tell me your most memorable holiday experience!!!!!

Hi
At our Christmas all the faimly come from every where
and meet sometimes at our station that is 200km from
the nearest town. We have a big roast lunch and tea
and open christmas presents together. Other years
we just have it on our own or we all travel to some
other relatives station or house.
At easter mum use to hide the eggs in the garden.
However one year we were going somewhere for the day
and she had already hid them and when we woke up the
next morning to find them they were all melted!! Another
time the birds ate them :( and left wrappers all over
the yard.
At new year in 1999-2000 we had a huge party at the
closest salt lake where all our friends, neighbours,
and relatives all came and we had fire works, music,
barbies, and rode the land yacht and played cricket
!!!!!!!!!!
Our closest neighbor is 50km away and sometmes we
meet up for special occasions but not too often.

What
sort of motorbikes do you have? Did you get a say
in choosing your motorbikes? Did you have to save
up for them, or did you get some help? When did you
start to ride motorbikes?
What are some of your hobbies?
How close are you to your nearest town?
What sort of pets do you have?

G'day
Kate,
My best friend Bridie, lives over 500km away. We keep
in contact via email and phone. We meet at school
funtions about four times a year. These include our
school camp at the start of the year, our class school
experience week and get-together. Just recently I
spent a week at my friends house and we did school
together. This is really cool because we don't get
together very often.
Next term hopefully she will be coming to my place
to do school.
Cheer Fiona

Hi
Anna,
My name is Fiona.
In my spare time I like to help out on the station.
We run sheep and cattle. I help with mustering, drafting,
lamb tailing, calf marking and any thing else Mum
or Dad are doing. We usually do everything as a family
so we all are involved. I also like exploring the
big gum creek with my pet dogs. I generally like to
be outside.
I enjoy collecting teddies and trolls.
My pets are 2 dogs, 1 cockatiel, 1 budgie, 2 cows
(raised them on bucket milk) and a small mob of pet
sheep. I have raised many poddy lambs with a bottle.
One of my pet sheep has had 16 lambs in 6 years. She
is special as this includes 5 sets of triplets.

We
are a year 4/5 class in Hallett Cove SA. It is very
cold down here at the moment. It is about 14 degrees
and it is usually quite windy as well.
In our spare time we like to play with our friends,
and we like to play with computers and gameboys and
playstaions.
There are 28 people in our class and we have a good
time.
We start school at 8:45 and finish at 3:15.

hello
Anna
In my spare time I help out on our station with the
10,000 sheep by checking to see if there is enough
water in the trough and tanks. I also help with shearing

we also do this at lamb tailing and Crutching.
I ride a 80 motorbike and sometimes i drive the station
cars.
I also ride my horses and enjoy riding them in Gymkhana
events. I also play with my border collie sheep dog
and help look after all the other animals.
I also enjoy chating on the phone and radio with my
friends.
My favourite hobbies are helping on the station, horse
riding and playing wih my pets and Talking!!!
We have five dogs(Maggie, Missy, Sam, Lucy, Paddy),
4 horses (Tango, Copper Rosy and Kitchy), 1 budgie

Dear
Roger
A typical school day goes from 9 to 3 and I do Maths,
English,Science and Technology either in my very small
school room or on the dining room table. If I get stuck
with a question I ask my very intelligent mother. If
she doesnt know I ring my teacher in Port Augusta.
My air lesson is half an hour on the radio every day
and we talk about different subjects. There are 6 other
year 7 students.

------------------------------------------------------------------
As
their teacher I may not see them but I usually have
phone contact with them most days and for four days
we have an air lesson. Air lessons go for half an
hour and are just like a normal classroom lesson.
All students participate in the lessons which could
be from any curriculum area. My students all have
a timetable that they follow just like kids in a face
to face school. The timetable is one of the most essential
items they have because it gives them a routine to
follow and organise their day, prepares them for face
to face schooling and ensures that they complete the
requirements of the courses.
My day revolves around their air lesson and marking
the work they send in. Although we have a course to
follow not all the kids progress at the same rate.
Therefore we modify and extend individuals to ensure
we get the best out of them and keep them focussed.
You are on call to your students from 8.30am to 4.00pm
each day.
Cheers
Mike
