Jun 18, 16:43: pauline hedger> I have been really busy, but have not got anywhere. We have had a lot of international visitors more than Australian tourist. Hi Gayle I guessed it was you. You were so quick off the mark. Ha. I have only just had lunch. I really do not know what I have done. I hope we can connect the webcam soon as I need to show some people in England some photographs of Wilpena Pound. They would like to purchase one so I thought it was the best way to show them instead of writing. So I am looking forward to that.
Jun 18, 16:43: David> Pauline, would 1600 tues your time be ok to see the wilpena pound photos?

Jun 18, 16:47: Gayle has left the room
 Jun 18, 16:48: Karen> Hi Susan!
 Jun 18, 16:48: susan> Hi Karen
Jun 18, 16:48: pauline hedger> Hi Nathan. I Manage the Wadlata Outback Centre and also the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Gardens.
Jun 18, 16:52: Karen> Pauline would you like to explain what the Wadlata Centre does, primarily?
Jun 18, 16:53: pauline hedger> Nathan I shold expan and that. Wadlata is a tourist attraction which interprets the evolution of the Flinders Ranges and Outback from 15 millions ago to modern day. We give visitors to the centre a better understanding of the region they may visit. We interpret the greening, the geology, Aboriginal Dreaming, the explorers, the settlers etc through interactive displays. It is excellent. Plus we have a very large Visitor Information Centre which supplies visitors with all the information they need to make their visit exiting and safe and we make sure people do not miss any part of the region.
Jun 18, 16:55: pauline hedger> In other words we ensure people visiting Wadlata, Port Augusta, the Flinders Ranges and Outback have a great time.
Jun 18, 16:56: susan> How many visitors would you have go through the centre each year?
Jun 18, 16:56: Nathan> Thanks for that Pauline, i would love to chat longer, but i really have to go.
Jun 18, 16:57: Nathan has left the room
Jun 18, 16:57: ron has entered the room
 Jun 18, 16:57: Welcome ron ,
Welcome to the CTC chat room!
Jun 18, 16:58: Karen> Hi Ron - where are you from?
Jun 18, 16:59: pauline hedger> Hi Susan. We have approximately 100,000 visitors enter the building per year but only about 28,000 of those pay to go through the Interpretive Section which is a shame because it is really very good. We have won 6 State Tourism Awards. It is a 3.6 million dollar project , in 1987 terms.
Jun 18, 17:00: Karen> What types of interactive displays do you have in the Interpretive Section?
Jun 18, 17:01: ron has left the room

Jun 18, 17:04: Karen> Susan, do you have students with you?
Jun 18, 17:04: pauline hedger> Most of the displays are what we call, 3 dimentional. We have audio, audio visuals and written material. You can view some of the displays via this web site if you would like.
Jun 18, 17:05: Karen> How many people work at the Centre?
Jun 18, 17:08: Sally has entered the room
 Jun 18, 17:08: Welcome Sally,
Welcome to the CTC chat room!
Jun 18, 17:08: Karen> Hi Sally - welcome to the chat!
Jun 18, 17:09: Sally> Pauline, where does the name Wadlata originate and what does it mean??
Jun 18, 17:11: Karen> Pauline are you still there?
Jun 18, 17:11: pauline hedger> We have met so many people over the years it has been fantastic. I do not know whether it is the funniest, but trying to get international visitors to understand how hot it can get and how far it is between towns. It is interesting talking to these people because they have a great deal of trouble getting used to our slang or how we say things.
Jun 18, 17:11: susan> Thanks Pauline and Karen, have to go now.
Jun 18, 17:13: pauline hedger> We employ 10 people to work 7 days per week. Some of those people work part-time. I also employ a Trainee is is nearly finished and will take over the previous trainees position as she will be going to Enland and the end of the week for two years.
Jun 18, 17:13: susan> Sorry Karen, I don't have students with me now I am running a parent internet class and was just showing them the chat room with CTC, I guess you were all guniea pigs so to speak

Jun 18, 17:13: susan has left the room
Jun 18, 17:14: Karen> Can you tell us a bit more about the Arid Lands Botanic Gardens?
Jun 18, 17:14: ann> Re Australian slang - my partner told some Indonesian visitors that his boss was crook - ie sick - they wanted to know why he was working for a crook
Jun 18, 17:18: pauline hedger> Ann - Yes I had a Japanesse guy wanting to know if he should drink some fine dark powder attached to a souvenir line we stock. It was called the "Bullshit Card". I go myself into all sorts of trouble trying to explain what it was and why and how we use that terminology.
Jun 18, 17:19: Sally> Pauline, where does the name Wadlata orginate and what does it mean??
Jun 18, 17:20: Melanie has entered the room
 Jun 18, 17:20: Welcome Melanie,

Jun 18, 17:22: pauline hedger> Wadlata is an ancient Aboriginal Parnkhalla word which means to teach, say or communicate.
Jun 18, 17:23: Sally> Thank you. How long have you been working there?? Do you know Mark Hough?? I believe you worked with him in 1987. Small world.

Jun 18, 17:28: ann> Hi Katrina from the Nt you must have got my email!
Jun 18, 17:28: pauline hedger> I sarted with the project in 1986, where I worked part-time with the South Australian Tourism Commission and the Wadlata Outback Centre. The Centre did not open until 1988. Is the last name correct. Hough?? It dose not sound familiar, however I did work with a Mark in 1997/8. The years go so fast.
