Jun 30, 12:42: Mac> Hello everybody. Have I missed much?
Jun 30, 12:42: Melanie> Where abouts do you play to the tourists?
Jun 30, 12:43: Bolda> I just got here , no one wants to ask me anything about didgeridoo
Jun 30, 12:43: Melanie> how long have you been playing the didg
Jun 30, 12:44: Mac> I have just spent two hours going through the Pine Creek pages on this website. You are great Bolda and so is the rest of your community
Jun 30, 12:44: Bolda> I sit outside the cafe on Main Street and play when the buses come in, and I also have a newly-opened gallery in PIne Creek HOtel with art, rock paintings, and the best didgeridoos for sale.
Jun 30, 12:44: Bolda> That;s what makes PIne Creek special. Where are you from Mac?
Jun 30, 12:44: Mac> I do. Do you make your own and whats makes a really good one?
Jun 30, 12:46: Mac> are you in one of those Sneaky Peek pages?
Jun 30, 12:46: Bongo> hey Oasis ... say gidday to Bolda ... very cool dude from Pine Creek
Jun 30, 12:46: sally has entered the room
 Jun 30, 12:46: Welcome sally,
Welcome to the CTC chat room!
Jun 30, 12:47: Bolda> I learned to play from Senior elders of Jawoyan people of the Katherine- Kakadu-Arnhem Land region, and have been playing for close to 20 years. I make my own didg . I look for a good natural hollow log. No I wasn't in the calendar for 2000, but there is another one being done at the moment and I am in this one that is coming out for 2002.
Jun 30, 12:48: Mac> You guys sure have the whole "lifestyle" thing sorted out
Jun 30, 12:48: sally> hi bolda. How long does it take to make a didgeridoo
 Jun 30, 12:49: Bolda> Hello Sally , welcome.
Jun 30, 12:50: Bongo> hey Oasis .... where are you guys ... got lots of customers or something ... ???
Jun 30, 12:50: Melanie> Have you recorded an album or anything?
Jun 30, 12:51: sally> I've never even touched a didg before, how hard is it to learn to play?
Jun 30, 12:52: Yeliz has entered the room
 Jun 30, 12:52: Welcome Yeliz,
Welcome to the CTC chat room!
 Jun 30, 12:52: Melanie> hello Yeliz
Jun 30, 12:52: Mac> they are a lot harder than they look to play. I can't do it, but Bolda can
 Jun 30, 12:52: Yeliz> Hi bongo
 Jun 30, 12:53: Yeliz> hello melanie
Jun 30, 12:54: Bolda> It can take up to 3 months to prepare an instrument properly. The timber has to be seasoned , and the painting can take a fair bit of time. I came to PIne Creek from Edith Falls almost a year ago. I have my 3 boys with me now in PIne Creek, Joshua Najalung, Jatbula Balang, and Jaydin Daypilama. I did have an album but I don't produce it anymore. I am working on a new project. I wrote a book on didgeridoo in the 80's called "Gunbarrk Garra" It is very easy to learn to play a didg, if you don't take it too serious. You'll all have to come to PIne Creek for the Didj Jam to learn to play in my Didj Workshops.
 Jun 30, 12:54: Mac> I can make a noise, but I can't sustain a steady flowing rhythm thing
Jun 30, 12:55: sally> yeh i have heard the have some didg jamming thing where people come and play the didg....am i right...when is this event?
Jun 30, 12:55: Mac> The Didj Jam sounds so cool, when is it held?
Jun 30, 12:57: Bongo> Bolda ... have you had a chance to see much of this website? ... do you like it?
Jun 30, 12:58: Yeliz> hello oasis cafe, marree, mac bolda and sally
Jun 30, 12:58: Bolda> To play the instrument properly you need ot use 7 body parts - breath, lips, tongue, cheeks, diaphragm, and then we use the vocal cords in two different ways. The Didj Jam is held every year in PIne Creek on the long weekend in May. We usually have around 50 didj players and around 400 spectators, and we play all night and into the morning. I did some didj workshops on the Saturday and Sunday this year, and about 20 people came for lessons. We had Charlie McMahon and Gondwana here this year, but had a problem with the generator, which meant we had no PA so that was a bit of a problem, but we have it all sorted out for next year!.
 Jun 30, 12:58: Oasis Cafe,Marree> howdy
Jun 30, 12:59: Bolda> I haven't got a computer so haven't seen much of the website, I will check it out when I finish here.
Jun 30, 12:59: Bongo> is Charlie the guy with the hook for a hand?
 Jun 30, 12:59: Yeliz> i play 4 intruments
Jun 30, 13:00: Melanie> wow...i think iwould find it hard to use all 7 body parts at once...i guess you need co-ordination!!!
Jun 30, 13:00: Bolda> Yes, that's him. He has been here for the Didj Jam every year since it started in 1996.
Jun 30, 13:01: Bongo> guys are only able to use one body part at a time, aren't they?
 Jun 30, 13:02: Melanie> ha ha
Jun 30, 13:02: Bongo> I saw Charlie (with the hook) in Alice Springs ... he was just awesome ... the whole crowd was blown away ... pardon the pun!
Jun 30, 13:02: sally> Is this your first time in a chat room Bolda, how are you finding it?
Jun 30, 13:02: Bolda> Yeliz, where do you come from? Do you play the didg, and do you know the didg player Shah?
Jun 30, 13:03: Bongo> hey ... some action at Oasis
Jun 30, 13:03: Oasis Cafe,Marree> How do you manage that cicular breathing to keep the didge going ,can play it but to keep it going is nearly impossible.?????
Jun 30, 13:03: Yeliz> well to of them are pretty much the same. I play piano, keyboard, recorder and violin
Jun 30, 13:03: Mac> Bolda, who is Shah?
Jun 30, 13:05: Yeliz> come from adelaide bolda
Jun 30, 13:05: Oasis Cafe,Marree> played trumpet for Rodger fox big band in NZ for 6 yrs,and drums but still can,t play the didge properly. Any tips???
Jun 30, 13:05: Mac> Yes Oasis, that breathing thing IS impossible
Jun 30, 13:05: Bolda> Sally, yes this is my first time. It's a little bit confusing, especially since I'm not typing! It's impossible to breathe in and blow out at the same time. The trick is to condition your cheeks to push your breath out to be able to breathe in at the same time. Shah is the most famous Iranian didg player in Australia.
Jun 30, 13:06: Melanie> Bolda, do your kids play the didg? and if they do, do you have jamming sessions together?
Jun 30, 13:06: Oasis Cafe,Marree> Quite some trick- easier said than done!!!!
Jun 30, 13:07: Bolda> The best tip when playing didg is not to think so much and to be open to the feeling of the instrument. My children have no option but to play the didg! My youngest (13 months) is beginning now to play.
Jun 30, 13:07: Oasis Cafe,Marree> Is the gold mine still productive in pine creek ?
 Jun 30, 13:08: Yeliz> bolda it's okay, i'm only 8 and i find my tyeping a bit to slow
Jun 30, 13:08: Melanie> Have you hade a miniture didg for the 13 month old??
Jun 30, 13:09: Oasis Cafe,Marree> Theres only about 80 people in marree how many inPine Creek?
 Jun 30, 13:09: Bongo> you're doin great Yeliz ... you're not too slow
Jun 30, 13:10: Bongo> Is that Brad talking at Oasis ... I can see his head in the webcam, i think
Jun 30, 13:11: Yeliz> how do you know bongo, well i'm a bit faster now, but when i was 5, i was the slowest
Jun 30, 13:11: Bolda> No, he practices on the same instrument as I play, as does my 2-year-old. They manage to produce apretty good sound. PIne Creek has 540 people, we had over 600 a year ago but the mine is cutting staff. Yes the gold mine is still working, they employ about 100 people, but we hear they will be closing down next year so PIne Creek will be down to about 400 people.
Jun 30, 13:11: Oasis Cafe,Marree> yo bongo brad here how gos it?
Jun 30, 13:12: Bolda> Have any of you ever been up to the Top End or to PIne Creek?
Jun 30, 13:13: Oasis Cafe,Marree> Ta Bolda didn,t think it was that populated .Whats the main industry apart from gold and didge playing?
Jun 30, 13:13: Yeliz> 1 of the annoyingest boy plays the violin with me, he wastes my time which is REALLY ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 Jun 30, 13:13: Bongo> I have ... very cool place ... sooooo layback ...
Jun 30, 13:14: Bolda> Our main industries are gold and tourists.
Jun 30, 13:15: Mac> I can see the Marree webcam now. I thought it would be harder, but it's easy. Hello Brad
Jun 30, 13:16: sally> no i never have been up that way...but as i have been checking out the connecting the continent website it really makes me want to take a holiday all the way up the telegraph line....the scenery just looks so beautiful and the people seem like very nice people
Jun 30, 13:17: Mac> Is there a webcam at Pine Creek?
Jun 30, 13:18: Yeliz> bolda, have you ever made a violin, it must be hard, and i think that most of them were made in asia, actually, i kind of know that's true. Is it true bolda?
Jun 30, 13:18: Bongo> this site has some pure gold on it ... and is good for tourism!
Jun 30, 13:19: bushy has entered the room
 Jun 30, 13:19: Welcome bushy,
Welcome to the CTC chat room!
Jun 30, 13:20: Yeliz> hi bushy, how do ya do?
Jun 30, 13:21: Bolda> Well you should definitely come up here - this is God's own country. Pine Creek people are really friendly and we accept everybody , we get all sorts of 'strange' people coming to town, and PIne Creek people don't care, they just accpet them ( which is why we end up with a lot of 'strange' people in town, but it makes the place interesting with such a wide range of people. We didn't take up the offer of a webcam because we couldn't decide where it was going to be put, and we wer afraif to 0ut it outside on the street in case nothing ever happened! Sorry Yeliz, I'm into wind instruments not string instruments..
Jun 30, 13:22: Bolda> Welcome Bushy, where are you from?
Jun 30, 13:22: Melanie> Hey Bolda, you should have put the webcam in the gallery at the hotel...show off the gallery!!
Jun 30, 13:23: Yeliz> another time i entered this site, somebody knew my epal her name is isebella clark, and she lives in moolooloo station, and bolda, have you ever made a recorder?
Jun 30, 13:23: Bongo> Gidday Bushy, welcome back ... good to seeya
Jun 30, 13:24: Yeliz> i live in adelaide bushy, and i'm a year younger than you!
Jun 30, 13:24: Bolda> There wasn't a gallery then, it's only been open for 2-3 weeks, and it's a first for Pine Creek, and possibly in the NT to have an Aboriginal art gallery in a hotel
Jun 30, 13:24: bushy> what school do you go to ?
Jun 30, 13:25: Melanie> did you have something to do with getting the gallery happening?
Jun 30, 13:25: Mac> I have to go now. I have really, really enjoyed this chat. Thank you Bolda and thank you for this wonderful website. Bye

Jun 30, 13:27: bushy> yeliz i go to hallett cove east
Jun 30, 13:28: bushy> not far away from you
Jun 30, 13:28: Bolda> Melanie, yes it is really my gallery, as I not only play didg but am also an exhibited artist. Also living in town is a French Airbrush artist, and he also has some artwork on display in the gallery. It was my idea to have the gallery, adn the pub obliged by giving me the space, We are getting a constant flow of people through, with a few sales, but I am meeting great people.,
 Jun 30, 13:28: Bongo> That's where I am Yeliz ... flagstaff hill ...
Jun 30, 13:29: Melanie> oh thats fantastic...welldone...i'll have to come and visit one day
Jun 30, 13:29: Bolda> Unless there are any more questions, I will log off and go back to the gallery and play some more didg. Hope to see you mob up here.
